THE GROUND RULES

Terms of Use

These terms explain the agreement between you and Steppy when you use our app, website, AI features, credits, and any future paid features.

Last updated: 23 June 2026

By downloading, accessing, or using Steppy, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

1. About these Terms

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Steppy iOS application, website, support channels, and related features (together, the “Services”). “Steppy”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the provider of the Services. You must also follow applicable App Store terms and any rules shown within the Services.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 13 years old to use Steppy. If the law where you live requires you to be older to enter this agreement or consent to data processing, you must meet that age or have permission from a parent or legal guardian.

You agree to provide accurate account information, keep your sign-in credentials secure, and promptly tell us about suspected unauthorised access. You are responsible for activity under your account except where caused by our failure to use reasonable care.

3. Licence to use Steppy

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Steppy on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store usage rules, for personal, non-commercial study and productivity purposes.

You may not copy, sell, rent, sublicense, reverse engineer, attempt to extract source code, bypass security or usage limits, scrape the Services, or use Steppy to build a competing product, except where such restrictions are prohibited by law.

4. Your content

You retain ownership of assignment details, notes, custom blockers, checklist items, and other content you submit (“Your Content”). You grant us a limited, worldwide licence to host, process, reproduce, transmit and adapt Your Content only as needed to operate, secure, support and improve the Services, including generating requested AI output.

You are responsible for Your Content and must have the right to submit it. Do not upload content that is illegal, harmful, abusive, infringes another person’s rights, contains malware, or includes confidential information you are not authorised to share.

5. AI-generated content

Steppy uses third-party artificial intelligence to generate checklist tasks and reset suggestions. AI output is generated automatically and may be inaccurate, incomplete, unsuitable, or similar to output provided to others. You must review it and decide whether it is appropriate for your assignment and circumstances.

Steppy is a study and productivity tool—not medical, psychological, academic, legal, or professional advice. It does not diagnose or treat ADHD or any health condition. If you need medical or mental health support, contact a qualified professional or an appropriate emergency service.

6. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • use the Services unlawfully or to harm, harass, exploit, or deceive another person;
  • submit content that violates intellectual property, privacy, confidentiality, or other rights;
  • interfere with the Services, probe security, introduce malicious code, or access another user’s account;
  • automate requests, resell access, evade AI credit or subscription limits, or place unreasonable load on our systems;
  • use AI features to generate unlawful, harmful, deceptive, or academically dishonest material; or
  • misrepresent AI-generated work as your own where your institution’s rules require disclosure or prohibit such assistance.

7. Free features, credits, and changes

Steppy currently provides a free monthly allowance of AI credits for AI-assisted assignment breakdowns and reset steps. Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred, and may expire or reset. We may adjust feature limits, credit allowances, or availability to maintain the Services, prevent abuse, or reflect product changes. We will give reasonable notice of material changes where practicable.

8. Paid features and Steppy Pro

Steppy may offer paid features through a Steppy Pro plan. If paid features are offered, payment will be charged to your Apple ID through the App Store, and subscription pricing, billing period, trial terms, and included features will be displayed before purchase.

  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
  • Apple may charge your account for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID subscription settings.
  • Deleting Steppy or your Steppy account does not automatically cancel an App Store subscription.
  • Refunds and billing disputes are handled by Apple under App Store rules, except where applicable law requires otherwise.

Paid features may require us to confirm an active App Store entitlement through RevenueCat. If purchase or restore controls become available and a purchase does not activate correctly, use “Restore Purchases” in the app or contact support.

9. Notifications and reminders

Reminders and focus-completion alerts are convenience features. Delivery may be delayed or prevented by device settings, connectivity, operating-system restrictions, time-zone changes, or technical failures. You remain responsible for tracking academic deadlines and obligations.

10. Intellectual property

The Services—including the Steppy name, logo, design, software, text, graphics, and non-user content—are owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not transfer ownership to you. Feedback you voluntarily provide may be used without restriction or payment, but we are not required to use it.

11. Third-party services

Steppy relies on services supplied by Apple, Supabase, DeepSeek, RevenueCat, Google, and other providers. Your use of their features may be subject to separate terms. We are not responsible for third-party services outside our reasonable control, but nothing in these Terms excludes responsibility that cannot legally be excluded.

12. Availability and updates

We aim to keep Steppy reliable, but we do not promise uninterrupted or error-free availability. We may maintain, update, suspend, remove, or change parts of the Services. Updates may be required to continue using Steppy. We may discontinue the Services by giving reasonable notice where practicable.

13. Suspension and termination

You may stop using Steppy at any time and request account deletion. We may restrict or terminate access if you materially or repeatedly breach these Terms, create security or legal risk, fail to pay applicable charges, or misuse the Services. Where appropriate, we will provide notice and an opportunity to fix the issue.

Sections that by their nature should continue after termination—including intellectual property, disclaimers, liability, disputes, and licences needed for lawful retention—will survive.

14. Consumer guarantees and disclaimers

Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Services are provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not guarantee that Steppy will meet every requirement, prevent missed deadlines, improve grades, or produce accurate AI output.

15. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Steppy and its personnel will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss, or loss of data, opportunity, profits, goodwill, or academic outcomes arising from the Services. Where liability cannot be excluded, our liability will be limited to the remedies required by applicable law.

You are responsible for maintaining backups of important academic material. Steppy is not intended to be the only record of an assignment or deadline.

16. Apple-specific terms

You acknowledge and agree that:

  • these Terms are between you and Steppy, not Apple, and Steppy—not Apple—is responsible for the app and its content;
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Steppy;
  • if Steppy fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price, if any, as required by App Store terms; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation;
  • Steppy, not Apple, is responsible for addressing claims relating to the app, including product liability, legal compliance, and consumer protection claims;
  • Steppy, not Apple, is responsible for investigating and resolving claims that the app infringes third-party intellectual property rights;
  • you are not located in a country subject to a United States government embargo and are not listed on a prohibited or restricted-party list;
  • you must comply with applicable third-party terms when using Steppy; and
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of South Australia and the Commonwealth of Australia, without excluding any mandatory protections under the law where you live. Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us so we can try to resolve the issue. Courts with jurisdiction in South Australia will have non-exclusive jurisdiction.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect product, legal, security, or operational changes. We will post the revised Terms and update the date above. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice where reasonably possible. Continuing to use the Services after the updated Terms take effect means you accept them.
